Health Works for Cornwall

Health Works for Cornwall has received investment from the European Union’s European Social Fund (ESF) and Cornwall Council as principal match funders, to deliver this programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The programme is supporting 5,500 unemployed or economically inactive individuals, who have health-related barriers towards employment.

Health Works for Cornwall is developing collaborative and innovative solutions to address the underlying key challenges of breaking the cycle of ill health and/or reliance on benefits that can lead to issues such as low earnings, household income issues, long term unemployment, poverty and debt. This is an employment support programme meaning that the principal goal is to progress participants into work.

The programme started in July 2020 and will run until December 2023.

Cornwall Development Company (CDC) is leading a partnership of 11 local organisations, all of whom have been specifically chosen because of their expertise, based on decades of experience in running programmes with the identified target groups.

Lessons learnt from previous projects have informed the project delivery model, which consists of a series of highly targeted inventions, combined with more general provision, incorporating the best of the tried and tested techniques with brand new initiatives, to maximise the impact and effectiveness of the project.

Health Works for Cornwall is supporting eligible individuals by:

  • Providing access to a menu of specialist support and training options personalised for the participant and their needs
  • Matching them with suitable partner organisations who have been specifically selected due to their expertise and decades of experience
  • Providing 1-2-1 dedicated mentoring
  • Offering financial assistance to support with costs such as travel, interview clothing and childcare
  • Arranging in-work support to help “trouble-shoot” any issues and sustain employment
